How do we make driving easier and safer?
TL;DR
These are just the end results of some of the driver assistance features for Faraday Future’s flagship vehicle. The touchpoints included touch screens, acoustics, speech, physical buttons, the steering wheel, the turn signal stalk, and the gear stick.
I would be happy to share more about the process for these.

Objective
Help the driver drive.
Solutions
Adaptive Cruise and AutoDrive Status
Adaptive Cruise maintains the vehicle speed without hitting the car in front. AutoDrive keeps the vehicle in the center of the lane (aka. auto steer).
When Adaptive Cruise or AutoDrive status changes, a visual notification appears on the driver display.
Manually Control Adaptive Cruise and AutoDrive
Middle steering wheel button
Press once to engage or disengage Adaptive Cruise.
Double press to engage or disengage AutoDrive.
Steering wheel
Resist the auto steering to disengage AutoDrive.
Brake pedal
Step on the brakes to disengage Adaptive Cruise.
When Adaptive Cruise or AutoDrive must be automatically disengaged by the system, an escalated visual warning appears, and an acoustic warning is played.
Backup View and Surround View
When the driver shifts the gear to R, Backup View and Surround View appear automatically.
Blindspot View
When the driver activates the turn signal, the Blindspot View appears automatically. The Blindspot View window dynamically re-sizes to coexist with navigation information.
Intersection Preview
When navigation is active, and an intersection turn is approaching, the driver sees a visualization of the intersection on the head-up display.
Driver Notification
This is for non-urgent notifications for the driver. A non-urgent acoustic is played along with a visual message. Some examples are,
- Driver attempts to shift out of P gear without pressing the brakes first.
- Driver attempts to drive while the car is still charging.
- Seatbelts are unfastened while driving.
Mission Critical Warning
When an urgent event has happened, and immediate actions are required from the driver, a visual warning appears on the head-up display, and an acoustic warning is played.
Lane Departure Warning
When the vehicle is about to cross the the lane markings, and the turn signals are not activated, a visual warning appears on the driver display, and an acoustic warning is played.
Lane Keep Assist
This is a similar but separate feature from Lane Departure Warning. When the vehicle is about to cross the the lane markings, the vehicle automatically veers towards the opposite direction. No visual or acoustic feedback is generated.
Smart Parking & Summon
In a familiar parking lot, the driver can choose to let the car autonomously park itself or drive itself to the driver. A mobile allows the driver to monitor the process, and stop the car at any time.
This feature requires the driver to “scan” the parking lot and mark designated parking spots.
Map Creation & Manager
This feature is required for Smart Parking & Summon feature. Driver can “scan” any parking lot by driving through its lanes. After the scanning a drivable map for the parking lot can be saved and managed.
Driver Assistance Settings
Many driver assistance features can be tuned or toggled from the center display.
